Installing CnCNet manually

To install the CnCNet client, first download the client executable. Navigate to the folder of your game and copy cncnet5.exe into the folder. We are not talking about the Start menu folder, but the actual game folder. You can access these by going through Computer (My Computer for XP and older). To play online, simply start cncnet5.exe and login!

Peer-to-peer mode and port forwarding

CnCNet implements both tunneled and faster peer-to-peer mode. Peer-to-peer requires UDP port 8054 to be open to work properly. portforward.com has an excellent per-router guide how to forward the port.

If your router supports UPNP, below is a tool to create the port forward automatically.

  1. Download cncnet-upnptool.zip and extract it anywhere.
  2. Run "cncnet-upnptool.exe"
  3. In the left corner of the program you should see a button called "Get All Port Mappings" click it. In the box to the right you should see the text "Starting UPNP Device Search...".
  4. If you get a response after the message "Starting UPNP Device Search" go ahead and click the "Map My Port" button otherwise you will have to either open the port manually or disable peer to peer mode in the CnCNet settings

Source and other resources

If you are interested in the CnCNet source code, below is a list of related links. The CnCNet 5 client itself is not open source until further notice.

Installing legacy CnCNet 4 manually

To install the CnCNet client, first download the client executable. Navigate to the folder of your game and copy cncnet.exe into the folder. We are not talking about the Start menu folder, but the actual game folder. You can access these by going through Computer (My Computer for XP and older). To play online, simply start cncnet.exe!

We also have an automatic UPnP tool for those who have UPnP supporting router in our downloads section.

After you have configured your router, start CnCNet and click [ Settings ] when the connection window opens up and click [ Retest ] button to check if the forward works properly.
